Mage Training Arena
  • Mage Training Arena

Mage Training Arena is a great place to pick up either magic experience, or magical related items, and runes for use or resale. Items you can earn as rewards there are full infinity, the Bones to Peaches spell, or Wands, and Mage Books. All aspects of this Arena is safe, and will not give you any randoms whilst you are in the rooms.

The first thing you should do is to decide if you are only doing this game for mage experience, or if you wish to do it for the rewards. If it only for mage experience alone, you just need to enchant, and can skip all other sections of this guide.

Always Exit the rooms via the proper exit. If your mum comes around for a natter, make her wait just a few more seconds at the front door, until you can exit properly. Failing to exit using the designated exits may result in your losing some of the points, or not getting rune, or cash rewards.
Remember to either get a hat, or bring yours with you. You will always need to have it on you, or wear it whilst doing the MTA. Destroying your hat destroys your points. If you do this, you lose all points, so just don't do it image/tongue.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":P" border="0" alt="tongue.gif" />

I lay no claim to this guide being the fastest, best method to do the MTA, however this is the method that worked best for me. There are other guides out there, that others might find easier or better to use.

    Enchanting [top]

    Enchanting for mage experience only[top]
If you are looking for mage experience only, then you simply need to cast enchants in the Enchanting Room. What to wear is subjective, but essentially something light and easy, and just carry cosmics, and a staff, or runes, to match the maximum enchant you can cast. The experience is reduced by 25% in this mini game, but because of the number of items you can enchant it more than makes up for it. It is a cheaper alternative to the likes of High Alching items (at a possible large loss) or casting teleports (at a total loss).

Typically your inventory would look like this:
    img src="http://img249.imageshack.us/img249/6149/enchantinv1yd0.png" border="0" class="linked-image" />

You would then gather up a full inventory of whatever coloured item that you like, I personally prefer yellow! You can enchant whilst running to the centre, and simply deposit them when you have enchanted them all. Rinse, and Repeat img src="http://www.runeology.org/forums/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tongue.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":P" border="0" alt="tongue.gif" />
    image

    Enchanting for rewards [top]
The first thing to do is to discover dragon stones. Every few minuites they respawn and are worth 2 times the enchant you are casting. So for level one enchant you will get 2 pizzaz points, all the way up to level 6 enchant, for which you would get 12 points. Company is always appreciated in this place, but see anyone else as enemies ready to steal your extra points, and dragons stones image/wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink.gif" /> Always pick these up and enchant as you see them. Then move onto the coloured objects.
    image

I find it easier to just grab a whole inventory of two or three different items, then just enchant as they come up in the dialog shown at the top right hand corner of your screen. Try and find a corner that hold two different coloured objects, and use that to pick up a batch of two lots.
    image

If you have space to pick up a few more, then run to the next corner, and pick up those. Again you can enchant running back to the centre, or stick around if you wont have enough to deposit. Once you have used up one colour, or two, then you can return to the spots and pick up more items. You can also use the time waiting for a colour that you have to show up for enchanting by collecting the drag stones, making a quick Cuppa Tea, or just collecting more colours.
    image

The annoyance in this game is, that you will only get runes, and extra points back, when you deposit in bunches of 10. So if you want, fill up your inventory with 8 items, so that you can carry only 20 free items. That way you maximize the time spent depositing, and also maximize what you deposit back in, and receive from the game. The number of extra pizzaz points you receive is linked to the enchant you cast. If you cast level 1, you get 1 extra point, 2 will give you 2, level 5 will give you 5 etc.

    Alchemy [top]

With this area of the game you should decide if you are willing to spend out more to gain things faster. If this is the case then you should Alch items worth 15 or 30. If you do not wish to do this, stick only with the items that are "free" to alch, or those worth 30. Expect to be running around a fair amount, so decent agility helps here, along with weight reducing items like Lightness boots, penance gloves, and a spotty/spottier cape.

Using Low alchemy does not make it any quicker, just dramatically reduces any mage xp you would gain. High Alchemy all the way with this one.

Free to alch items are denoted with an Arrow pointing next to them. By alching these items you will not use up any natures, or fires.
    image

The method I found that worked for me, was to simply gather three loads of items. Alch them when I had items worth 15, or 30. If I found I had no items worth these, then I'd alch free items. If I had none of them, then I'd find more items to gather image/biggrin.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin.gif" /> The time I spent stood around doing nothing seemed to work out to be little compared to if I were searching for the item each time, then Alching. This way I alched more during my time.
    image

Deposit only in batches of 100, as it does not carry over any amount over. So if you deposit a batch of 1794 gp, you would only get 17 points, with you losing out on the remaining 94 gp.
    image

Other players in this area may call out where the items are, and if you find them whilst you are rooting around for more things to alch, its respectful to call out the location as well.

    GraveYard [top]

This one is great fun! You have two options here. Either bring in food, and eat whilst you're doing it. Or use the heal method of either eating Bananas or leaving and healing in the Duel Arena. The method I use it a combination of healing at the Duel Arena, and eating an inv or two of Bananas. You will be hit for 2 constantly whilst down in the GraveYard, and whilst it is a safe game, if you die, you will respawn upstairs and will lose 10 points every time you die. Don't Die! It's a waste image/wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink.gif" />

If you are getting Bones To Peaches Spell as well as other items, then I'd recommend you get the spell first, items after. The B2P Spell can be very handy down here, but not necessary. It will mean you can carry less bones/bananas due to using more runes for casting. Please note that you can not use B2P tabs in this game. This is also quite heavy on the run, so recommended is lightness gear, as well as the spells/staff for casting Bones to Bananas.

In this game the Bananas you deposit carry over, so for every 16 Bananas you deposit, you get one point. If you happen to deposit 23 then the remaining 9 will stack, and will be counted with the next lot you deposit. This is why some deposits you appear to get two points, rather than 1.

Position is everything here. Use a spot of bones that is conveniently located close to a bone collector. The spot I use is shown below. I like this one, due to it being close to the exit also.
    image
(The top arrow denoting a bone spot, and the bottom arrow being the collector)

There are 4 sets of bones with each converting into a different number of bananas. There are 4, 3, 2 and 1 and you can see which the pile is on by looking at the pile, or your inventory as you pick them up. The interface to the right of the screen will always show you which bones give how many bananas. I tend to just mass spam click and pick up about 16 or so, then switch fast and cast B2B (Bones to Bananas) spell. Almost all the time I pick up a full inventory.

The trick here, aside from not dying, is to either heal before you die, or leave just close to dying. You can eat 2 to 3 bananas between the 2 hits you get often. So you can heal that way pretty well. When I'm going to leave and heal with one of the healers at the Duel Arena, I will stick on Redemption close to 5 - 10 hp left, then carry on once healed.
    image

Eventually at about 9 hp I will do my last load of bones, then leave and head to the Duel Arena. You might as well restore prayer points here, as well as bank any additional runes you have received.
    image

If you cut it too close, and end up with 4/6 hp left, and are worried about dying, just deposit in the bone collector, but do not click continue. You can then reposition your map to allow you to select the exit, or wait a few mins to gain a hp or two. It acts by stopping you being hit by the 2 damage. You will be hit by 2 once you select the exit, and it is possible to be hit by another 2 before exiting, so if you have 4 hp left, heal one or two more before attempting to leave.

    Telekinetic [top]

By far this is the one that made me want to cry.image/biggrin.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin.gif" /> It's tedious, and repetitive in a way that I've not felt in the other 3 sections.

First off, Lightness is imperative in this one. You should only wear gear that lighten weights. Penance gloves (if you have), boots of lightness, and a spotty/spottier cape. Your inventory should look something like this: Super energies can be swapped out for normal energies, but expect to use them eventually. You don't really want to be walking in the puzzles. It'll drive you a bit dotty if you're just walking it.
    image

The easiest way to describe this, is to just watch it. Try and think ahead, and head for the corners where you can do two steps. I don't believe it is faster, it just feels like you are doing it faster. Whilst the guardian is moving your run does not restore so when you get low, or run out just pot it back up. Always run to the edge of the maze, and select "Observe Guardian" option. Completing mazes like that makes it easier on your fingers by not having to constantly adjust the view.

Completing 5 in a row will give you bonus runes, and 8 extra Points.
    image

Congratulations on working your way through the MTA

Use your points to buy items and either use, or sell on for profit. You can buy all your runes, and sell your goods and still profit, although if you wish to combine RC with this skill, you will make more cash back by crafting your own runes. It is also a cheaper way to get items if you intend on using them.

  • I'd like to put in jumpy bits to the 4 different sections, can you do it on here? if so, how? Also are images gonna be a problem, cus I have quite a few in this one.
  • Rusteh,

Just to add to your grave yard thing.. you recommend bones to peaches, I find it useful to do bones to bananas due to less runes, then do a load of peaches when i need to eat.
  • Moosie,

I don't really recommend it, it's useful only for the fact that you can heal faster, but it's not necessary. It does take more space, and simply not needed. I've edited it to say that, thanks! biggrin.gif
  • When I did it... I would bring like 5 sharks... and rarely waste my time converting bones to any type of food. When my HP got really low... I'd leave, bank, heal up, and grab more food. It might seem annoying, but I prefer not having to try to out click the damage dealt.
  • whoa thats one nice guide ohmy.gif i need bones to peaches and plan to get it one day, so thanks for this rusty!
  • ohmy.gif What Sieg said Rust!!!!! I need bones to peaches too lol, this gonna help! thx tongue.gif
  • There's a certain order to the items in the alchemy chamber if you didn't know Becca, but I can't bother getting it right now :$
  • yeah the order is there, but when i was there, it was fast points, which if you do it in a popular world, you'll see where people go. This is why i limit myself to just certain items, rather than 1 point, on a free alch. Time is money ;P

    Thanks for the compliments!

There is a broken image in the Graveyard section of the original post.
